How To Judge a Beer - imperial IPA (triple) with Pipeline brewery's 10% 'Do Whales Dream'

IMG_0007.JPG

Sarah Pantry & Rich Caller are two of the UK's most qualified BJCP beer judges and will be returning with their regular BrewCon spot 'How To Judge a Beer' to kick start the evenings proceedings.

Previous years workshops featured an Imperial Stout and a US Barleywine, so we've decided to keep the theme going with a super fresh Imperial IPA for Cornwall's finest - Pipeline Brewery.

Learn how to fill out a scoresheet and how to accurately judge a beer on its appearance, aroma, flavour, mouthfeel and overall technical quality.

The Science of Brewing a Tripel

Francesco Antonelli, Italian Homebrewers Association

"Everybody can easily brew beer at home. It’s fun and almost straightforward in its basic form. But when chasing perfection, every beer style becomes tricky to brew. Belgian Tripels are maybe among the toughest concoctions to nail. Deceptively easy recipes require almost insane attention to detail, a great deal of brewing knowledge and a lot of practice to get to a brew even remotely comparable to the best Trappist examples. In the past years, I dedicated most of my brewing and tasting to understanding Tripels. Here is what I have learned so far"

Franceso is a passionate homebrewer and Certified BJCP beer judge from Rome. He took up homebrewing in 2012 when he started his blog (brewingbad.com). He has brewed more than 140 batches at home and a few collaborations with Italian craft breweries. He writes for the most renowned Italian beer magazines (Fermento Birra, Cronache di Birra). He teaches homebrewing and beer-tasting courses. In 2020 he co-authored a book about homebrewing (Fare la Birra in Casa) which got to its second edition in 2023. He also co-hosts MashOut! Podcast, a weekly podcast about beer and homebrewing, on air since 2020.
